Kenneth C. Porter

1927-2012 SHAFTSBURY Kenneth C. Porter, 85, a resident of Shaftsbury, died Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at his residence.

Born in Bennington June 14, 1927, he was the son of Kenneth and Marjorie (Overing) Porter. Ken received his early education in North Bennington and was a 1945 graduate of North Bennington High School. He was also a graduate of Castleton Teachers College. A World War II veteran, Ken served in the U. S. Navy during that time.

In early years he taught at Bennington High School and also operated Ken Porter Builder in the area.

Ken married the former Betsey Beach in Bennington on August 5, 1950. Betsey died June 19, 2006. In 1973 Ken and Betsey moved to Harwich, Mass., where Ken continued to work for many years as a builder. He later served as the Building Inspector for the town of Harwich for several years until his retirement.

Ken returned to Bennington in 2002 and has resided in Shaftsbury for the past ten years.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha A. and Tom Emery of Green Valley, Ariz., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Memorial services celebrating the life of Kenneth C. Porter will be held from the Federated Church of East Arlington Monday, August 20, 2012 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kathleen S. Clark officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.
