L. Gardner Graves, Jr. 1946 - 2011 BENNINGTON L. Gardner Graves, Jr., 64, of Farmington, Conn., beloved husband of Betsy (Roemke) Graves, passed peacefully on Thursday, June 30, 2011. He was born on Sept. 15, 1946, in Bennington, son of Hope J. Graves of Bennington, and the late Louis G. Graves. Gardner graduated from Suffield Academy, Suffield, Conn., in 1964 and Colgate University in 1968, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Economics. Mr. Graves was a real estate agent and co-owner of Realty Works in Canton, Conn., for many years. In 2008, he was recognized by the Canton Chamber of Commerce as the Business Person of the Year. Besides his loving wife of 22 years, and his mother, he is survived by a son, Stuart L. Graves of Irvine, Calif.; a daughter and her husband, Lisa (Graves) Spencer and Kristopher Spencer of Dexter, N.Y.; three sisters and their husbands, Lodie and James Colvin of Bennington, Linda and Thomas Shanafelt of Bradenton, Fla., and Judy and Bill Knight of Bennington; in-laws, Edward and Bette Roemke of West Hartford, Conn., Suzanne Roemke of Canton, Conn., and Edward Roemke of Avon, Conn.; three grandchildren, Meghan and Michael Spencer of Dexter, N.Y., and Karstn L. Graves of Irvine, Calif., as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his younger brother, John Graves of Belmont. FUNERAL NOTICE: There are no calling hours.
