She attended grade school at Nathan Hale, graduated from the Gateway School for Girls in New Haven, Conn., and from Smith College in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Ms. Palumbo was a direct descendant of Andrew Warner, who in 1636 was a founder of Hartford, CT with the Rev. Thomas Hooker. During a period that encompassed nearly four decades, starting in 1968, she was involved with Art on the Mountain, serving as chairwoman for several years, as well as a member of the Board of the Deerfield Valley Health Center Volunteers. Her organizational skills were important to the extraordinary financial success of that project. She moved to Durham in 2008 to be close to her grandchildren. Before her retirement she was Administrative Assistant for the Town of Wilmington and also a Lister of Property, serving the town faithfully from March 1991 to march 2008. Ms. Palumbo was an avid reader, prided herself on regular completion of the Sunday Times crossword puzzle, and enjoyed most of all special times with friends and family, in Durham, Tucson, and Wilmington. She leaves a son and daughter in-law, Andrew and Kristina Palumbo of Durham, N.C.; and two grandchildren, William (Wil), 8 and Lily, 6, of Durham.
