NORTH POWNAL -- Mrs. Laura Belle Hurley, 82, a resident of Route 346, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at the Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center, following a long illness.

She was born in Middle Granville, N.Y. Aug. 17, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Worden and Mary Ellen (Butler) Woodard. She received her education at the Camden Valley School.

Laura married Clarence Andrews Hurley Sr. in 1939. Mr. Hurley died Feb. 25, 1962.

In earlier years, Laura was employed at the Pownal Tannery, Bennington Convalescent Center, Stanley Tools and General Cable.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and camping.

Survivors include five sons, Clarence A. Hurley Jr. of Hebron, N.Y., Henry Hurley of North Pownal, James Hurley of White River Junction, Robert Hurley of Cambridge, N.Y. and Ralph Hurley of North Pownal; a daughter, Edna Bentley of North Pownal; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Woodard of Easton, N.Y. She was predeceased by a son, Wallace Hurley; four brothers, James, Wallace, Ola and George Woodard; and three sisters, Beatrice Lewis, Eleanor Brown and Marjorie Derusha.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor of the Pownal United Methodist Church, officiating. The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery, Pownal.
