Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- A prayer service for Lawrence B. “Larry” Houran was held on Saturday morning at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home in Bennington, followed by a Mass of Christian death and burial at Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. Upon arrival at the church, the pall was placed upon the casket by Mr. Houran’s son and daughter-in-law James and Rita Houran. A wooden cross was then placed on the casket by Mr. Houran’s wife Antoinette. The celebrant for the mass was the Rev. Vincent Coppola, c.s.c., associate pastor. The Old Testament scripture was read by a granddaughter Lynn O’Dell. The New Testament reading was offered by Terry Granger. The Eucharistic gifts were presented at the altar by Mr. Houran’s grandchildren, Scott, Audra and Christina Houran.

Musical selections for the Mass were “Ave Maria,” “On Eagles Wings,” “Be Not Afraid,” and “How Great Thou Art.” Soloist for the mass was Monica Murray and the organist was Donald McMahon. John Reed served as an acolyte.

Pall bearers for the service were Donald Harvey, Gary LaFlamme, Mark Onorato, Ray Guilmette, Charles Houran, Thomas LaFlamme, Terry Granger and Joseph Houran.

The burial took place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery with Father Coppola offering the committal prayers. A reception followed at the home of William “Pat” Houran.

Mr. Lawrence B. “Larry” Houran, 90, a longtime resident of County Street in Bennington, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St.
