Obituary Condolences

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Lawrence B. Severson, 79, died Monday, Oct. 20 at the Albany County Nursing Home in Albany. He was the husband of the Late Dorothy (Kusek) Severson who died on February 16, 2001.

He was born July 26, 1924 in Hoosick Falls son of the late Charles and Rose (Carr) Severson. Lawrence graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Hoosick Falls and Siena College with two degrees one in Journalism and one in Economics. Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving during World War II, from 1943 to 1946.

He worked for the Picotte Co. in Albany, N.Y. in the maintenance department. He also wrote for several Roman Catholic magazines and was an executive in the Boy Scouts of America. Lawrence also started the Rosary Beggars, which was a group who made rosary beads and sent them all over the world.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathy Serafino of Aurora, Colo.; five sons, Ronald, Paul and Kenneth Severson, all of Schenectady, David Severson of Seattle, Wash., and Timothy Severson of Catskill; two brothers, Robert Severson of Wynantskill and Rev. Richard Severson of Gansevoort; also survived by two grandchildren and a great grandchild. Lawrence is pre-deceased by a son, Daniel, a sister, Nora, and two brothers, George and Donald.

Funeral services will be Friday, Oct. 24 at 10:30 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A mass of Christian burial will be offered by his brother, Rev. Richard Severson, at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Cemetery in Schuylerville.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Academy through the funeral home.
