CROWN POINT, N.Y. -- Lawrence Joseph Young Sr., 80, of Crown Point died Dec. 13, 2003 at home under the care of hospice.

He was born April 3, 1923, the son of William and Alma Ashbaugh Young.

For many years he ran an auto body business at his home in Crown Point. He later owned with his first wife Mary a local restaurant and was a longtime justice in the town. From 1971 until his retirement in 1984 he taught auto body at the Moriah BOCES.

In retirement he remained active in the local food pantry and took care of the many needs of the Sacred Heart parish and cemetery. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. He was an eucharistic minister at Sacred Heart and a member of the American Legion. Lawrence served in the Army during W.W. II in Italy.

In1947, he married Mary Colhano and spent most of their married life in Crown Point. She died in January 1984. He later married Sophia Mackay.

In addition to Sophia, he is survived by one son, Lawrence Jr. and his wife Patricia of Russell, N.Y. and a daughter, Anne Marie, and her husband, Samuel Kelson, Bennington, Vt.; two stepchildren, Sandra Spacher, Rochester and Stephen Mackay, Crown Point; one stepchild, Christina Mackay, predeceased him. He is also survived by two sisters, Bonnie Music, South Glens Falls and Jean Versocki, Schenectady and a brother, William, Round Lake; two brothers, Frank and Edward predeceased him.

He also has 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service and mass will be celebrated at the Sacred Heart Church in Crown Point on Saturday, Dec. 20 at noon. The family encourages donations to the charity of one’s choice.
