NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Mr. Lawrence Oliver “Larry” Nichols, 78, of Lincoln Street, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004 at his home.

He was born in Ellenburg, N.Y. on Nov. 13, 1925, the eldest son of the late Oliver F. Nichols and Hazel N. (Arno) Nichols.

As a young man, he worked on the family farm and logging business and later, he was employed with the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. He took up the carpentry trade for many years and lastly served as the building superintendent of the North Adams YMCA.

Following a serious heart condition, he spent his later years enjoying pine-cone wreath making, woodworking and gardening.

His wife is Mrs. Roma Alice (Foster) Nichols and they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on Dec. 28, 2003.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Carolyn Brown of Bennington, Vt., and three brothers, Richard Nichols of Williamstown, Bernard Nichols of Pownal, Vt., and Leonard Nichols of Bennington.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Dorothy Whitney, and two brothers, Clayton Nichols and Robert Nichols.
