Lawrence George Tirrell 1935-2012 BENNINGTON Lawrence George Tirrell, 76, a resident of Crescent Manor, died Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center after a long illness. Born October 18, 1935 in Weymouth, Mass., he was one of the seven sons of Arleigh Latham and Helen Emily (Wyman) Tirrell. Larry worked as a fry cook at the South Shore Fish Market in East Weymouth, Mass., for many years. He was very well known for his wonderful food. After his retirement 14 years ago, he moved to the Bennington area. A member and former deacon at the First Congregational Church in North Bennington, Larry also participated in the church's "Open Church Program" as a docent. Lovingly called "the music man", he loved music, especially the songs of the 50s and 60s. Two children, Leonard P. Tirrell and Lisa H. Tirrell and five of brothers have died before him. Survivors include a son Lawrence A. Tirrell of North Bennington, a daughter Linda Thorne and husband Troy of Tampa, Fla.; the mother of his children, Lucille White of North Bennington; a brother, John Kenneth Tirrell; four grandchildren, Melissa Tirrell and fiance' John Williamson of Shaftsbury, Troy Thorne II, Alyssa Thorne and Brandon, all of Tampa and many nieces, nephews and their families.
