MANCHESTER -- Lawrence B. Wilcox, 87, of Manchester, passed away Monday, March 26, 2007, at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester. He was born on Oct. 18, 1919, in Manchester, the son of Burton and Grace (Root) Wilcox. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester. He was married to the former Hilda Lomberg.

He was a WWII Army veteran. He served in China, Burma and the India Theater as a 1st Lieutenant. with the 1880 Engineer Aviation Battalion for 5 1/2 years. After the war he owned and operated Wilcox Fuels from 1948 to 1971 with his brother Bernie. He also served as a village trustee for two years, special deputy for the town of Manchester and on the Auxiliary police for the State. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, the Mount Equinox Grange, Adoniram Masonic Lodge No. 42 and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda of Manchester; two nephews, Gary Wilcox of Manchester and Alan Wilcox of Wells; and a niece Diane Wilcox of Manchester.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Brewster Funeral Home, 34 Park Place, Manchester. Burial with military honors will follow in Ira Allen Cemetery in Sunderland. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, March 29, 2007, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. There will be a Masonic service on Thursday at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lawrence’s memory may be made to the Manchester Rescue Squad or the Manchester Health Services in care of Brewster Funeral Service, PO Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
