Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Lee S. Thompson, 73, a resident of Blackberry Lane, Bennington, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Pawlet Jan. 1, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Edith (Fisher) Smith. She received her education in the Greenwich, N.Y. schools.

In earlier years, Lee was employed as a foster parent and home health provider.

She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Hoosick Falls, N.Y.

For the past eight years Lee had resided at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation. Her family and friends were her main interest.

Survivors include her eight children, Regina (Tizzy) Thompson, John Thompson Jr. and Sharon Gates, all of Bennington, Lawrence Thompson of Shaftsbury, Gregory Thompson of Arlington, Daniel Thompson of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., Catherine Gates of Pownal and Kenneth Thompson of Bennington; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Keeler of New Hope, Pa. and Karen Smith Poirier of Bennington; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lee is also survived by three very special people in her life, Frank Ruggles, Trudy Menard and Sandra Smith-White. In addition there are many left who affectionely called her mom, gramma and aunt and she loved them all.

Committal services will be held Thursday, Aug. 26, at 11 a.m. at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.
