OCALA, FL -- Leila F. Smith, 84, died at her home in Ocala, Fla., on Oct. 10, 2006.

Born Sept. 15, 1922, in Jacksonville, Ga., she moved with her family to Hamden, Conn., where she graduated from Hamden High School with a degree in business.

Leila was an innovative businesswoman, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In 1975 she moved to Ocala with her husband, James J. Smith. Together they took pleasure in playing tennis, traveling and spending time with their family.

Leila is survived by her husband; her son, William E. Padgett Jr. and his wife, Jayne E. Caldwell; a daughter, Deloris Boltinghouse, and her husband, Jon Boltinghouse; a stepdaughter, Terri Parker and her husband, Allen Parker; two sisters, Austine Lasher and Lula Mae Bogue; a brother Ernest Bowen; and half-sister, Virginia Boucher and her husband, Kenneth Boucher, and her grandchildren, Jimmy Childress, and his wife, Vicki Childress; Amy Padgett and Emily Parker.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 13, 2006, at 10 a.m. at Hiers Funeral Home, 910 SE Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, Fla. 34471.
