Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Leo O. Denis, 80, a resident of Grove Street in Bennington, died on Sunday morning, July 30, 2006, at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a brief illness.

He was born in Winooski on Nov. 17, 1925, and was the son of the late Omer J. and Cecile (Greenwood) Denis. He received his education in the Winooski schools. Leo moved to Bennington in 1951. He served with the Navy during World War II. Leo married the former Marie Pineau in February 1959; she predeceased him in 1996.

Leo had been employed at General Cable Co. for many years in the production department.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.

Leo was a member of the American Legion Post No. 13 in Bennington and a former member of the Moose Lodge.

He was an avid athlete in earlier years. He was one of the top athletes at Winooski High School, playing baseball, football and basketball. Leo was an avid fisherman.

Leo is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Dale Dennis of Bennington, his daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John Rose of Bennington, and his daughter, Sharon Dennis of Bennington. He has two sisters-in-law, Theresa Denis of Essex Junction and Marge Pineau of Concord, N.H. Leo leaves two nephews, Craig Dennis of Milton and David Dennis of Fairfax; and his niece, Sheryl Holcomb of Milton. He has three grandchildren, Amanda Dennis, Trisha Dennis and Stephen Dennis, and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by one brother, William Denis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. in Bennington at 12 noon. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation through the funeral home.

SHAFTSBURY -- Alvan J. Lawrence, 80, a resident of Shaftsbury, died Monday, July 31, 2006, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington.

Funeral arrangements are pending, and a full obituary will appear in a future edition.

Arrangements are under the care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.
