NORTH ADAMS, Mass -- Leo Paul Godbout, 91, of North St., died Friday April 29, 2005, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Anne Marie and Kenneth Williams on Murray Avenue.

He was born in North Adams on Jan. 25, 1914, a son of the late Adelard and Phelanise (Bedard) Godbout. He attended schools in North Adams including the former Notre Dame Schools.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with U.S. Army Air Force serving with the 1010th AAF Base Unit as a corporal. He was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic -Pacific service Medal, Service Group Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal.

He was employed for 38 years at the former Hoosac Cotton Mills and was last employed for 12 years at the General Electric Co. in Pittsfield, retiring in 1979.

He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams.

He was a former member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in North Adams. He was a longtime member of the Retired Men’s bowling league and bowled twice a week. He enjoyed fishing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother.

His wife: Roma Bernadette (LeMire) Godbout whom he married July 5, 1947 died Dec. 5, 1987.

Survivors include three daughters, Anne Marie Williams and her husband Kenneth of North Adams, Mary Ellen Eliasen and her companion Paul Blanquart, North Adams, Janice Marie Powers and her husband Bernard of Adams; five grandchildren, Terri-Lynn Frank of Savoy, Christopher James Kurek of Adams, Craig Williams of Adams, Kenneth L. Williams Jr. of Hartford, Conn. and Todd A. Powers of Gilford, N.H.; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence Bombardier, North Adams and Theresa DeMasi, Bennington, Vt.; one sister-in-law, Lillian Godbout, North Adams; one brother-in-law, Joseph DeMasi of Bennington, Vt.

He was predeceased by two brothers: Honore Godbout, who died Sept. 10, 1989, and Ernest J. Godbout Sr., who died June 12, 1994; and two sisters, Rose Dumas, who died Sept. 13, 1981 and Marguerite Nault, who died Sept. 17, 1998.

Funeral services for Leo Paul Godbout will take place Monday at 10:15 a.m. at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St. North Adams followed by a liturgy of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, North Adams. Burial with full military honors will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, St. Francis Church or St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church in Cheshire through the funeral home.
