Leona H. Sausville

1917-2014 BENNINGTON Leona H. Sausville, 97, a longtime resident of Dewey Street in Bennington died Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Crescent Manor Care Center in Bennington following a brief illness. She was born in Bennington, Vermont Jan. 10, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Delia Boutin Sausville. Leona received her education in Bennington and later graduated from Saint Lukes School of Nursing in Pittsfield, Mass. in 1939. In earlier years Leona was employed at the Putnam Memorial Hospital in Bennington and for many years worked in the medical office of Dr. Browning. She later worked as a private duty nurse. Leona was a member of the Southern Vermont Nursing Association and was a member of Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. Survivors include two sisters, Irene Herrick of Bennington and Margaret Munns of North Brookfield, Mass. and a brother, Robert Sausville of Bennington. Leona was the doting aunt of 20 nieces and nephews each of them extraordinary in her eyes. She was pre-deceased by two brothers, Clarence F. "Kay" Sausville and Charles J. Sausville; and a sister, Rita S. Kearns. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire contributions in memory of Leona H. Sausville may be made to either Sacred Heart School or the Second Chance Animal Shelter through the office of the Mahar and Son Funeral Home 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
