Obituary Condolences

Leonard E. Duval

1922-2009 NORTH POWNAL Leonard E. Duval, age 87, of North Pownal, and currently residing in Utica, N.Y. entered into eternal rest on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Chateaugay, N.Y. on Aug. 15, 1922, Leonard was the son of the late Amos and Emma LaClair Duval.

He was raised and educated in Chateaugay and attended trade school in Rochester.

A veteran of World War II, he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1945 after serving in the Pacific Theater of Operations.

In October of 1946 he married the former Lucy Wilcox and enjoyed a blessed union of 55 years until her death in 2002. They made their home in North Pownal, residing there until 2006 when he moved to Utica, N.Y. due to poor health.

Leonard was a master cabinetmaker and samples of his handiwork are in homes throughout Vermont. He was also a contractor, lumberjack, factory worker, and skilled hunter and fisherman. In later years, his joy was playing cards with his friends and family.

Leonard is survived by his children, Leonard and Laura Duval of Kennesaw, Ga. and Lynn and Harry Taranto of Utica; five grandchildren, Shad Duval, Michelle Harrington, Elizabeth Halcus, Rebecca Curtis, and Shannon Boatman; and six great-grandchildren who will miss their "grampie and pop-pop". Survivors also include his sisters, Racheal Kiah, and Mildred Duval; his brother, Amos Duval; special nephew, Michael Duval and his wife, Jeanmarie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Ruby Miller and Florence LaMare; and one brother, Donald Duval.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Samir Desai, and Dr. Robert Burke for their compassionate care of this wonderful man. Also, a thank-you is extended to Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., the Office for the Aging, Senior Network, and others who have helped us maintain a quality of life and dignity for our beloved father, grandfather, and brother.
