HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Leonard J. Sheridan, 81, formerly of Hoosick Falls, died on Friday, July 15, 2005, at Williamstown Commons.

Born in Hoosick Falls on Nov. 18, 1923, he was the son of the late William and Catherine Mulligan Sheridan. He was the loving husband of the late Eleanor J. McClelland Sheridan, who died on March 13, 1998. They were married in St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, Vt.

Mr. Sheridan attended St. Mary’s Academy and enlisted in the U.S. Army on Feb. 13, 1943. He served in Central Europe and Rhineland as a heavy machine gunner. After being awarded a Bronze Star, Mr. Sheridan was honorably discharged in February 1946. He worked for Warren Wire in Pownal, Vt., before moving to Long Island in 1953. He was the president of Hi-Temp Corp. in Hicksville until coming back to the area in 1966. He then worked for General Cable Corp. in Pownal and retired in 1984. He and his wife retired to Lake Worth, Fla., and Fort Pierce, Fla. Mr. Sheridan returned to the area in 2001.

Survivors include his children, Larry of Afton, Va., Linda (Perry) Mattison of Pownal, Jean of Cohoes, Diane of Lake Worth and Lenny of Bennington; a brother, Francis of North Adams, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Arlene Crowley; grandchildren, Katie Mattison-Keir, Kristen Mattison, Larry Sheridan, Sherry Mohler and Dawn Workman; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a son, William Sheridan; and siblings, Walter and William Sheridan, Mary Van Orman and Elizabeth Pokines.

Private funeral services, with full military honors will take place at St Mary’s Cemetery, Hoosick Falls. There will be no public calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Stratton VA Hospital or American Legion Post No. 90 of Pownal. Arrangements are under the direction of Robson-Reinfurt Funeral Home of Hoosick Falls.
