Leonard Knights Sr. 1939 - 2009 BENNINGTON Leonard L. Knights, Sr., 70, a resident of Hamlin Ave., Bennington, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Bennington Health and Rehab, following a long illness. Born in Woodford on March 22, 1939, son of the late Mortimer and Theressa Marie Sax Knights, Len received his education in the Bennington schools. He married the former Barbara Eggsware at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington on July 9, 1960. Len was employed by the H. M. Tuttle Co. for 25 years and later at Johnson Fuel for five years. Prior to his retirement, he worked as the caretaker for the C. E. Dodge family in Pownal for nine years. Len served six years as a member of the Vermont National Guard in Bennington. He was a retired member of the Bennington Fire Department, a life member of Bennington Elks Lodge 567 and a member of Bennington Moose Lodge 1233. An avid outdoorsman, Len enjoyed hunting, fishing, his camp in Arlington and spending time with his family. He leaves his wife, Barbara Knights of Bennington; two daughters, Valerie Albrycht and her husband, Herb, of Bennington and Tracy E. Knights and her partner, Douglas Saunders, of Pownal; a son, Leonard L. Knights Jr. of Bennington; a grandson, Samuel J. Albrycht of Bennington, and three step--grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah and Elizabeth; two sisters, Joyce (Jim) Deeter of Texas and Shirley Flannigan of Bennington; two brothers, Morton (Marie) Knights and John Knights, both of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Len was predeceased by a sister, Marion Dufresne. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at 12 noon. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Woodford Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to either Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, the Activities Fund at Bennington Health and Rehab or the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
