Leonard I. Olson

1940 - 2009 HOOSICK FALLS, NY Leonard I. Olson, 69, a resident of First Street in Hoosick Falls, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at his residence, surrounded by his family.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., June 29, 1940, he was son of the late Gustav and Sadie Saamanen Olson. He received his education in Valley Stream, N.Y., and was a 1958 graduate of Valley Stream Central High School.

Lenny was a member of the Local 28 and Local 38 Sheet Metal Union Workers. He worked for several different companies including, Triangle, Silver Cup Studios and Fisher Sky Lights. Lenny retired at the age of 55 and moved to Hoosick Falls.

In earlier years, Lenny played guitar and sang with the band "Sounds Impossible." He passed his musical genes onto his children who have carried on his musical tradition. He also built cars and was a member of the "Rambling Rods." He was captain of both the Band Box Tavern softball and dart teams and was the Bass Ale Pool Champion. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, baseball, and his favorite TV show was the Price is Right. He also enjoyed shuffleboard and traveling with his fiancée, Roberta, to Colorado. He was an active member of the Hoosick Falls Eagles where he served as a trustee. While growing up, Lenny was a Brooklyn Dodger fan and more recently was a diehard New York Mets fan.

He leaves his fiancée of six years, Roberta Farrara-Bailey of Hoosick Falls; his four children, Dianna Davis and her husband, Edwin, of Baldwin, N.Y., Lenny J. Olson and his wife, Patricia, of Suffolk County, L.I., Ronnie Olson and his wife, Jeanne, of Bennington, Vt., and Julie Olson and Felix Rivera of Bennington; seven grandchildren, Shayne, Alyssa, Marissa, Morgan, Dylan, Brandon and Christina; a great-granddaughter, Vitalia; his former wife and friend, Lori Olson, and Louis Wolff of White Creek, N.Y. ; two brothers, Gustav 'Bud' Olson and George Olson of Valley Stream, L.I., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Friends may call at the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009, from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. The burial will take place in the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery in the spring.
