Obituary Condolences

MANCHESTER -- Leonard “Slim” Pelkey Jr., 76, a resident of Manchester, died Monday March, 1, 2004. He had been living at the Centers for the Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington for the past year and a half. He was born in Ray Brook, N.Y., the son of the late Leonard and Ethel Pelkey. He attended Ray Brook Schools.

Leonard worked at many jobs during his life. He came to Manchester in the late ‘40s to work for Reid LeFevre of King Reid Shows. The work brought him to Boston to winter for several years. He worked with the shows until 1968. He also worked for Donald Dorr of Manchester and for Sis Swezey as a caretaker until he had to retire due to his health. He loved animals and seldom missed the Atlanta Braves when on TV. The game of pitch was his favorite.

He is survived by his brother Louis in California and several nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Frank and two sisters, Lillian and Jessie. He leaves behind many friends in the Manchester area.

There are to be no services. Donations may be made in his memory to the Second Chance Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 620, Shaftsbury, VT 05262. Cremation services are under the care of Brewster Funeral Service in Manchester.
