Obituary Condolences

NORTH BENNINGTON -- Leota Quackenbush Amundsen, 82, a resident of Fairwinds Residential Care Home in North Bennington and a former resident of Falmouth, Maine, died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at her residence.

She was born April 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Delbert D. and Clara McGuire Carmichael. She attended the Monticello schools.

Leota married Ragnar Amundsen April 13, 1975. Mr. Amundsen died July 25, 1986.

Leota had been employed at both Eveready and Tansitor Electronics.

She enjoyed traveling and had traveled to Norway and throughout Europe. Her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her main interests. The family appreciates the care that Wanda and Wayne King and staff gave to her at Fairwinds.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Vitenbergs and her husband Ivars of Saratoga, N.Y. and Marie Surdam of Bennington; two sons, Ralph Quackenbush III of Bennington and Michael Quackenbush and his wife Jeanine of Jacksonville, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Allen Carmichael of Troy, Maine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Ellery Carmichael, and a sister, Levena “Beanie” Ames.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday, Oct.11, at 1 p.m.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 12 to 1 p.m.

A graveside committal service will take place in the family lot in the Blanchard Cemetery in Yarmouth, Maine on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Leota Quackenbush Amundsen may be made to one’s favorite charity through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
