Leroy F. Gattlin

1924-2013 SANDGATE Leroy F. Gattlin, 88, a resident of Tate Hill Road, passed away Wednesday morning, September 25, 2013 at Equinox Terrace in Manchester Center, Vt. Leroy was born in Newark, N.J. on Oct. 21, 1924 the son of the late Leroy F. and Ann (Francis) Gattlin and attended schools in New York City and Montclair, N.J. Leroy served his country as a member of the Navy during World War II. Upon being honorably discharged, Leroy worked as a Postal Clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for many years. While living in Sandgate, Leroy was very civically involved in his community. He served as a former select board member, cemetery commissioner and held several different chairs in Sandgate Town Government. In his earlier years, Leroy enjoyed coaching youth basketball. He loved to cook and was known for his fried apples, was a fan of the New York Football Giants and a Brooklyn Dodger fan. He enjoyed listening to Jazz music and loved to dance. Leroy was a member of the American Legion Post 69 in Arlington and the West Arlington Grange. He was a very outgoing gentleman that would help anyone in need. Leroy is survived by his wife the former Jane McLean of Sandgate whom he married in Montclair, N.J. in 1950; his nephews, Kim, Randall and Erik Manley, Ralph Riccardi, his son Ralph, Jr., and daughter Lori, and Terence Williams; his niece, Holly Schneider and his extended family and dear friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services for Leroy will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013 at the Sandgate Methodist Church. Rev. Keith Mann will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Visiting hours will be held Friday September 27, 2013 from 4 to 6 p.m. at HANSON-WALBRIDGE SHEA FUNERAL HOME, Arlington Chapel, Historic Route 7A, Arlington, Vt.
