Leslie F. Messina

1961 - 2015 POWNAL Leslie F. Messina, 53, beloved wife and mother, a resident of Cedar Hill Road died Wednesday April 1, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Bennington, Sept. 6, 1961. She was the daughter of the late Gordon and Caroline (Cutler) Ware. Leslie received her education early education in Pownal and was a 1979 graduate of Mount Anthony Union High School. She married George F. Messina on July 12, 1980 In earlier years Leslie had been employed as a substitute teacher at the Pownal Elementary School. She also worked as a waitress at several restaurants including the Cozy Corner's, The Orchard's, and the 1896 House. Leslie was a member of the Polish Hall in Hoosick Falls and the American Legion Auxiliary in Pownal. She enjoyed arts and crafts and especially enjoyed making jewelry, necklaces, and scarfs. Survivors include her husband, George F. Messina; his son, Gregorio and his fiancee, Alicia Troumbley; a daughter, Stephanie Messina; and a granddaughter, Sophia Grace Messina all of Pownal; two brothers, Burt Ware and his wife, Linda, of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and Kenneth Ware of Pownal; a sister, Gail Ware Deery of Saint Petersburg; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Francis Gordon Ware FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME in Bennington on Monday April 6 at 1 p.m. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
