BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Lillian I. Peat, 91, widow of William Peat Sr. and a longtime resident of Bennington, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at Crescent Manor Care Centers following a long illness.

Born in Adams, Mass. Jan. 10, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Agnes (Smith) Scott. She received her education in the Adams schools. Mr. & Mrs. Peat were married May 30, 1938 in Adams. Mr. Peat died May 2, 2003.

Mr. and Mrs. Peat had resided in Adams, Mass. from 1938 through 1961, when they moved to Bennington.

Lillian’s interests were many, but her family was foremost. Gardening and long walks with her husband were at the top of her list. Mrs. Peat was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church.

Survivors include two children, William Peat Jr. and Mary Barber, both of Bennington; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Scott of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Peat was predeceased by 16 siblings.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
