MANCHESTER -- Lillian I. Ercole, 69, a resident of Manchester for 10 years, formerly of Peru and St Johnsbury, died at the Crescent Manor Nursing Home in Bennington on Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, following a long illness. She was born Sept. 11, 1935 in Stephentown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Agustus and Ruth (Hassem) Olson. She graduated from high school in Berlin, N.Y.

Lillian was married to Anthony A. Ercole. The Ercoles lived in St. Johnsbury for many years and raised a loving family. Mr. Ercole died in 1981. Lillian was a Cub Scout leader and a member of the Eagles Club. She was very gifted at many crafts, including knitting, sewing and crochet. She was always caring and helpful toward others and will be remembered by her great sense of humor.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Dr. Edmund Meadows of Manchester; her son, Anthony “Tony” Ercole of St. Johnsbury; her stepsons, Edmund Meadows Jr. of Birmingham, Mich. and James Meadows of Beverly Hills, Mich.; her daughters, Denise Gandron of Mechanicville, N.Y. and Marymalane Pruyne of Henniker, N.H.; her stepdaughters, Melinda Miller of Sterling, Mass. and Sara Meadows of South Royalton; also seven grandchildren and her two dogs, Mikey and Puppy.

There are no services. Cremation was at Vermont Cremation Service in Bennington. Her cremated remains will be committed to the earth in the Ercole family plot in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in St. Johnsbury. Memorial gifts may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society VT Chapter, c/o Brewster Funeral Service, P.O. Box 885, Manchester, VT 05255.
