BENNINGTON -- A Mass of the resurrection was celebrated for Mrs. Lillian Lancour on Tuesday morning, Jan. 3, 2006, at St. John the Baptist Church in North Bennington with the Rev. Michael Demasi, officiating.

The pall was placed on the casket by Donna Watson and her son, John Lancour. The cross was placed on the casket by Mrs. Lancour’s daughter, Joyce Brine. Assisting at the Mass was Mr. Yvon Matte. The selected hymns for the mass included “I Know That My Redeemer Lives,” “Parable,” “Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling,” and “Song of Farewell.” The hymns were sung by Ms. Monica Murray, accompanied by Mrs. Louise Gauthier at the organ.

The scriptures were read by two granddaughters, Becky Mulhall and Cristi Coon. The Eucharistic gifts were brought to the altar by a grandson, A.J. Watson, and a great-grandson, James Watson.

Honorary pallbearers for the services were members of the church Sodality, Theresa Demasi, Betty Becker, Eileen Flynn, Leona Scott, Lorna Cole and Susan Harrington. Pallbearers for the services included A. J. Watson, James Watson, Michael Mulhall and Kirk Coon.

Interment followed in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery where the Rev. Demasi offered the prayers of committal.

A reception followed at the home of Joyce Brine.

Monday evening Mrs. Lancour’s granddaughter Mindy Jo Harrington read a poem during the visitation.

Mrs. Lillian Lancour, 85, a resident of Benmont Avenue, died on Dec. 29, 2005, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington following a long illness.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home.
