SHAFTSBURY -- Mrs. Lillian M. Harrington, 96, widow of Edgar “Bear” Harrington, a resident of Twitchell Hill, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2005, at a private care home in Bennington.

Born in Bennington Feb. 3, 1908, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Smith) Jepson. She received her education in the Bennington schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Harrington were married Oct. 5, 1927. Mr. Harrington died Oct. 17, 1978.

In earlier years Mrs. Harrington was employed at various textile mills in the area. She later worked for many years at the former Union Carbide Corporation until the time of her retirement.

Her home and family were her main interest. She enjoyed watching wildlife, growing flowers and was an avid reader. For several years she was a member of the local Rebeccas.

Survivors include her children, Jeanne Mattison of Shaftsbury, Florence “Flossie” Nolan and her husband Robert of North Bennington, Milton E. Harrington and his wife Gertie of Bennington, Donna Taft and her husband Chet of Manchester Center, Charles W. Harrington and his wife Candy of Crown Point, N.Y., and Mary Palmer of Bennington and her son-in-law, Bernard Harris of Shaftsbury; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Jepson of Shaftsbury; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Mrs. Harrington was predeceased by a daughter, Mildred Harris, in 1999; a grandson, Charles Harris in 1996; and a son-in-law, David B. Mattison in 1999. She was also predeceased by two sisters and six brothers.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, Oct. 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Estey, pastor of the Shaftsbury Methodist Church, officiating.

Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.
