Obituary Condolences

Bennington -- A service of celebration for the life of Lloyd V. “Pete” Johnson was held at the Second Congregational Church on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Mary Lee-Clark, pastor, officiating.

The homily and “Pete’s Words” were delivered by Rev. Lee- Clark, who reflected upon her own experiences with Pete over the last several years; in addition, words of remembrance were offered by friends Jonah, a caving companion, Nancy Jean from his church family, and co-workers P.J. and Mark.

Several musical selections were included in the service with the duet of organist Cindy Riddle and trumpeter Sue Green offering the prelude and recessional hymns as well as accompanying the vocalists. “Pie Jesu” was sung by Carol Poppe and Sharon Yarnall, “The Prayer” was sung by Paul Lambert and Lyn Songdahl-Sweet and “Whisper a Prayer” was sung by Paul Lambert. The congregation joined in singing “I Danced in the Morning.” The song of meditation was “I Can Only Imagine.”

Bagpiper Michael Gaylo played “Amazing Grace,” the service concluded with the recitation of the “Irish Blessing” by the congregation.

Attending the service as a delegation and forming an honor guard during the recessional were several members of the Northeastern Cave Conservancy.

A reception followed the service in Webster Hall.

Mr. Johnson, 61, a resident of Lower East Road in Shaftsbury, died Sept. 17 at The Centers For Living and Rehabilitation following a brief illness.

Arrangements were under the care of the Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington.
