Lois D. Comar

1926-2013 Lois D. Comar, 87, widow of Donald C. Comar, a longtime resident of Branch St. in Bennington died Wednesday June 12, 2013 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.

She was born in North Adams, Mass., March 21, 1926. Lois was the daughter of the late Arthur and Christine (Wheeler) Deming of Whitingham, VT. Following graduation from Whitingham High School in 1943 she attended Green Mountain Jr. College. At the end of her first year she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa Fraternity. She then entered into the former Peter Bent Brigham Hospital School of Nursing as a member of the Cadet Nurse Corp (a World War II government program)

Mr. and Mrs. Comar were married October 30, 1948 in Boston, Mass. Mr. Comar died June 3, 1995.

Mrs. Comar was employed as a registered nurse for thirty eight years at the former Putnam Memorial Hospital. She worked in many areas, her last years in the Intensive Care Unit. She later worked at the Weston Hadden Convalescent Center from which she retired.

She was a longtime member of the Alzheimer's Support Group. Her hobbies included knitting for RSVP and Guideposts sweaters, sewing, quilting and reading. She attended the Pownal Community Church and participated in their fund raising projects. Lois most recently attended the First Baptist Church of Bennington. Lois was also a member of the Bennington County Nurses Association and the National Button Society. She was a collector of buttons.

Survivors include three sons, Peter L. Comar (Yvonne) of Alamosa, Colorado, Glenn A. Comar (Chris) of Bennington and Scott A. Comar (Debbie) of Biddeford, Maine, seven grandchildren, Cailin, Jamie, Wendy Kate, Matthew, Anna, Abigail and Stephen Comar; a great granddaughter Lilly a sister Marguerite Roberts of Hinsdale, N.H. and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

At the request of Mrs. Comar there will be no calling hours.

The funeral will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
