Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Mrs. Lois F. Babcock, 85, a former resident of South Stream Road, Pownal, died peacefully Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation following a long illness.

She was born in Bennington on March 29, 1919. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Francena (Scrivens) Amadon. She received her early education in Pownal and was a graduate of the former Bennington High School.

Lois married Fred W. Babcock Nov.16, 1940. Mr. Babcock died May 9, 1984.

In earlier years, she worked at several local restaurants in Pownal and for 20 years had been employed as a cook and manager at the Molly Stark school cafeteria where she retired in 1989. She was known for her cooking ability and trying new recipes. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, gardening, her house plants, her cats, going to tag sales and listening to country and Western music. Her home, family and neighbors were her main interest. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lois was always willing to help out whenever she was needed.

Lois was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Bennington and an active member of the East Pownal Community Club and the Home Demonstration Group. She was a lifetime member of the Bennington Grange, having received her 50 year pin in 1984.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Babcock of Casper, Wyo. and Walter Babcock and his wife Joanne of North Bennington; three grandchildren, Trever Babcock and his fiancée Britton of Ithaca, N.Y., Brian Babcock and his wife Mary of Shaftsbury, and Kelly Cross and her husband Keith of Bennington; five great-grandchildren, Eric and Chelsea Bushee, Kodi, Amy and Keith Cross Jr. all of Bennington; one great-great-grandson, Austin Weller of Bennington; one brother, Gerald Amadon of Bennington; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by three sisters, Rachel McCoy, Harriet McLenithan and Martha Williamson.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Monday July 12, 2004 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Norma Drosky, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bennington, officiating.

The burial will take place in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery Pownal.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Sunday, July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Lois F. Babcock may be made to the Trigeminal Neuralgia Association through the office of the Mahar & Son funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington.
