Lois M. Hurley

1937 - 2014 BENNINGTON Lois M. Hurley, 77, a resident of Hurley Lane in Bennington died on Tuesday morning, May 13, 2014, at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation, following a long illness. Lois was born in Moretown, Vt. on Jan. 8, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Leo J. and Alice B. McDonald Reagan. In 1943, her family moved to Bennington, where Lois remained. She received her education in Bennington schools. On June 11, 1955, she married David J. Hurley in Bennington. They would have celebrated their 59th anniversary this year. Mr. Hurley survives. The family had lived for a short time in Mesa, Ariz., before returning to Bennington. When she was first married, Lois had been employed at Thompson's Manufacturing Co. After starting her family in 1964, she left the workforce until 1973. Lois returned to work at Putnam Memorial Hospital in the Rehabilitation Department where she worked for 25 years, retiring in 1999. Lois enjoyed being in her garden and being outdoors. She is a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary, but her favorite thing was spending time with her grandchildren. Besides her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Lynda Gift and her husband, Shawn, of Olympia, Wash.; her son, Michael Hurley and his wife, Stephanie, of Bennington; four grandchildren, Danielle, Quinlan, Regan, and Sawyer, and her great-granddaughter, Reagan; her sister, Jeanette Griffith and brother, Edward Reagan of Arizona. She is predeceased by her oldest son, David Hurley, II, who died in 1995. FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside committal services will be held on Friday afternoon, May 16, 2014, at the White Chapel Cemetery in Bennington at 2 p.m. There are no calling hours scheduled. Memorial contributions may be made to the Physical Therapy Department at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington through the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St. Bennington, VT 05201.
