Obituary Condolences

SOUTH BURLINGTON -- Lois Stocker Kenny, 77, quietly passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2007, at the Vermont Respite House.

She was born in Cohoes, N.Y., on Jan. 27, 1930, the daughter of the late Ray Anthony and Mildred (Wobrock) Stocker. She graduated in 1947 from Cohoes High School and received her nursing degree from Plattsburg State College. Before she married, she worked at the Mary McClellan Hospital of Cambridge, N.Y., and then as a school nurse in New Lebanon, N.Y.

She was married on Nov. 17, 1956, to James C. Kenny of Bennington, Vt., at St. Paul’s Church in Mechanicsville, N.Y.

Together they raised their four loving children. Their years together as a family were mainly spent in South Burlington. They enjoyed entertaining and the time they spent with family and friends.

Earlier, they enjoyed time with Lois’s parents on their boat, the Mil Ray. They would travel up the Hudson River to Westport, N.Y., on Lake Champlain. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed traveling to many places, including Bermuda, Bahamas, Dominican Republic and Rome, Italy, to name a few. They frequently visited Jim’s cousins still residing in Ireland. They shared many fond memories of their trips. Also they looked forward to their annual visit to the coast of Maine.

Lois was an avid reader and was always working on a crossword puzzle. She also knit many special sweaters and blankets for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her adoring husband, James C. Kenny, of 50 years; her four children, James Kenny and his wife Marie of Walpole, Mass., Ellen Erdmann and her husband Bruce of South Burlington; Peter Kenny of South Burlington; Sara Hunt and her husband Peter of Shelburne; daughter-in-law Tess Kenny of South Burlington; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Kenny, Devin, Joe and Kelly Erdmann, Scott and Patrick Kenny and Hannah and Simon Hunt.; a sister Joan Borden of Troy, N.Y.; and brothers Ray Anthony Stocker and his wife Cindy of Clifton Park, N.Y., and William Stocker and his wife Rachael of Green River, Wyo., Margaret Kenny of South Burlington, Eileen and Robert Gleason of Scituate, Mass., and John and Mary Ann Kenny of Santa Fe, N.M. She also has many nieces, nephews and dear friends that she leaves behind. She was predeceased by Dan Borden, Tom Kenny and John and Sheila Dunleavy.

A funeral service will be held on at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church, South Burlington. In Lois’s memory donations may be sent to Hope Lodge-American Cancer Society, 211 East Avenue, Burlington.
