BENNINGTON -- Lois Amy Sibley, 89, widow of Edward T. Sibley, a former resident of both Bennington and Troy, N.Y., died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center n Albany, N.Y., following a long illness.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I., July 19, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Amy (Bennett) Maher. She received her education in the Pawtucket schools and was a graduate of Pawtucket High School. Following high school Lois worked as a telephone operator at New England Telephone Company in Providence, R.I.

Mr. and Mrs. Sibley were married in Providence, Nov. 21, 1942. Mr. Sibley died April 1, 1995.

While living in Bennington Lois was employed as a secretary at United Counseling Service and also volunteered as a Grey Lady at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. She was an avid reader and in earlier years she enjoyed ice skating, horse back riding and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Joan Sibley Gemmill of Mechanicville, N.Y.,; three grandchildren, Adam Gemmill and his wife Kristee of Troy, N.Y., Lauren Gemmill of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Darcy Kane and her husband Michael of East Longmeadow, Mass.; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas Kane, Cameron and Conor Gemmill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, Aug, 11, 2007, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Michael DeMasi, officiating.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery.
