Lois W. Mattison 1914 - 2009 MANCHESTER, VT Lois W. Mattison, 95, a lifelong resident of Manchester, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester. She was born on July 24, 1914, in Rutland, daughter of Leon E. and Bertha Smith Wiley. She was a graduate of the Burr and Burton Seminary. She married Donald Mattison in 1936. Donald predeceased her. Lois was the postmaster in Manchester Depot during World War II and following the war was a postal clerk in the Manchester Village Post Office, retiring in 1972. Lois was the first female selectman in Manchester, serving from 1973 to 1983. Lois was an avid golfer. She was a past director of the Vermont State Women's Golf Assoc. and a past president of the Equinox Golf Club. She leaves her son, Carl A. Mattison II, of Wells; her daughter, Muriel Mattison Smith of Middletown Springs, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two half-brothers, John F. and James L. Wiley. MEMORIAL NOTICE: At her request, there will be no funeral services.
