Lolita B. Smith 1921 - 2008 VERMONT Lolita B.Smith,87,lifelong resident of Bennington and resident of Gore Road passed away peacefully Thursday morning Aug. 28, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. Lolita was born in Bennington on July 12, 1921 daughter of Horace and Hazel Gore Becker. She attended Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School, class of 1939. She continued her education at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in the nurses training program graduating in 1943. She worked as a registered nurse at Putnam Memorial Hospital for forty four years, and also did private duty nursing. She was very proud of the fact that she delivered every one of her nieces and nephews at the hospital, right up to her retirement. Lolita enjoyed needlepoint, knitting and crocheting. Not only did she create afghans for her family but also made them for the Vermont Veterans Home and the homeless shelters in North Bennington. Lolita enjoyed reading, especially right before going to sleep. She leaves her brother Paul Becker and his wife Anna of Bennington, her sister Hazel Green and her husband Clark Green, Jr. of Bennington, her cousin Roland Becker of Bennington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Merle Becker who died in 1997 and her life long companion Michael Williams who died in 1999. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Lolita will be held Tuesday morning Sept. 2, 2008 at 10a.m. at the HANSON-WALBRIDGE FUNERAL HOME 213 West Main St. Bennington, Vt. Interment will follow in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. There are no visiting hours. Memorial gift's in Lolita's memory may be made to the Lolita B.
