DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Lorraine Eastman, 77, of Dunedin, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2006, at Cross Terrace Rehabilitation Center after a long illness.

She was born in Bennington, Vt., Nov. 4, 1928, the daughter of the late Mable Gerity and Arthur Noble. She graduated from Bennington High School in 1946 and received her bachelor’s degree from American University in 1952. She earned a master’s degree in 1970 from Russell Sage College.

A teacher in the Bennington School District for many years, she received many honors in education and was considered among the country’s top child development professionals. She was named Bennington’s Community Citizen in 1981.

She was also the first woman elected chairwoman of the Bennington Board of Selectmen. She was an active member of Innovators, the Newcomers Club of Dunedin and Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was an inspiration to all and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband, Harry; two daughters, Sandy Aparicio of Fontana, Calif., and Michelle Ballard of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and four grandsons. Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Florida. Arrangements were under the direction of Abbey Affordable Cremation & Funeral Services in Largo.
