Lorraine H. Marrs

1927 - 2012 BENNINGTON, VT Lorraine H. Marrs, 85, a resident of Merson St. in Bennington, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., surrounded by her family.

She was born in Salem, Mass., April 30, 1927, daughter of Daniel and Helen (LeFleur) Gallagher. Lorraine received her education in Salem, Mass., where she was a graduate of Salem High School. She later graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. On Nov. 17, 1951, Lorraine married Leo Marrs. This year they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

In earlier years, Lorraine was employed as a secretary at Hytron in Massachusetts. For several years she was employed at the Lincoln Memorial Library in Lincoln, Maine, and after moving to Bennington worked at the Bennington Free Library. She had also been employed at Fishmans in Bennington and the Office on Aging. Most recently, she volunteered at the Bennington Senior Center, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.

An avid reader, Mrs. Marrs enjoyed visiting different elementary schools in the area and reading to the children. She was a very good bridge player, enjoyed cooking and summers at the family camp in Maine. While living in Maine, Lorraine was a member of the Daughters of Isabella at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln, Maine.

Survivors include her husband, Leo Marrs of Bennington; her children and their spouses, Paula Downs and Arthur of Lee, Maine, Carol Cummings and Danny of Howland, Maine, Patty Moors and Danny of Lincoln, Maine, Laurie Marrs of Williamstown, Mass., and Danny Marrs and Christina Liff of Rochester, N.H.; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Gallagher of Marblehead, Mass., and Lawrence Gallagher of Salem, Mass., and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Wednesday Dec. 12, 2012, at 7 p.m. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
