Louis D. Woodard 1921 - 2009 BENNINGTON Louis D. Woodard, 87, a resident of County Street, Bennington, died Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Born in Bennington, Dec. 15, 1921, son of Jesse and Mary Cornell Woodard and received his education in the Shaftsbury and North Bennington schools. Louis was a World War II Army veteran. Louis's first wife, Maggie, died many years ago. He later married Daisy Skidmore on June 22, 1971. Daisy died June 30, 1989. Louie was employed for many years at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington until the time of his retirement. He leaves step-children Ralph Wideawake of White Creek, N.Y., Donald Wideawake of Granville, N.Y., and Sharon Church and her husband, Steven of Hoosick Falls, N.Y.; 25 grandchildren including Harry Porter III and his wife, Sandra, of Bennington, Vt., and 30 great-grandchildren including Carlene Sausville; a brother, Edward Woodard of Shaftsbury, and sister Barbara of Massachusetts. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR & SON FUNERAL HOME Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, pastor of the Salem United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will take place in the family lot in Rupert Cemetery. Should friends desire contributions in Louis D. Woodard's memory may be made to the Bennington Rescue Squad through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
