Louis Boutin

BENNINGTON -- Louis O. “Louie” Boutin, 90, a resident of Maple Street, Bennington, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness.

Born October 5, 1916, in Armagh, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Wencelas and Celestine (Goulet) Boutin. He received his education in Bennington. Mr. Boutin was a World War II Army veteran.

Louie married the former Doris Emma Smith on Nov. 17, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington.

In earlier years he was employed by Seven States Gas Company and Bellemare & Sons Furniture. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1233 for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 in Bennington and American Legion Post 90 in Pownal.

Survivors include his wife, Doris E. Boutin, of Bennington; a brother, Leon Boutin of Bennington; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Mr. Boutin was pre-deceased by a daughter, Margaret M. “Peggy” Boutin who died Oct. 29, 2001; and also by six sisters, Emma Boutin, Yvonne LeClerc, Lydia Delisle, Marie Marcoux, Gabrielle Bortell and Clarina Bellemare; and five brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Henry, Roland and Jules Boutin.

The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Friday evening.

Private committal services will take place at the convenience of the family lot in Woodford Cemetery.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mr. Boutin may be made to Scared Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, Sacred Heart School or the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of the following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday evening to conduct services for Louis O. Boutin: VFW Post 1332 at 6:30 p.m., Bennington Moose Lodge at 7 p.m. and American Legion Post 90 at 7:30 p.m.
