Louis A. Zoufaly

1925-2014 Louis A. Zoufaly, 88, a longtime resident of Manchester, Vermont died Saturday January 4, 2014 at the Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. Born in Flushing, New York March 2, 1925, he was the son of the late William J. and Agnes (Henle) Zoufaly. Louis received his education in Elmhurst, New York. A World War II Army veteran, Louis served from 1943 to 1945. He fought in several battles including the Battle of the Bulge, Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He married Marie R. Choquette in February 1949 and they would have celebrated their 65th anniversary in February. In 1946, following the service, Louis began his career with New England Telephone. He started as a lineman and in 1968 was promoted to Systems Supervisor, a position he held until retiring in December of 1984. Louis enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons, gardening, horse race handicapping and especially bee keeping. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Maria R. Zoufaly; his children and their spouses, Aime Zoufaly (Sally) of Manchester, VT, Michele Sargent of Granville, NY, Louise Zoufaly of Surprise, AZ, Michael Zoufaly (Laurinda) of Belchertown, MA and Thomas Zoufaly (Therese) of Manchester, VT and a niece, Roberta White who was a special part of their home; fourteen grandchildren, Angela and Andrew Zoufaly, Brooks, Damon, Ryan and Blair Mone, Wyatt and Luke Thompson, Sean and Meagan Zoufaly, Zachary and Joel Zoufaly and Billy and Cody Gilbert; fourteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Emil Zoufaly and his wife Marion and Howard Zoufaly and his wife Andrea along with many nieces, nephews. He was pre-deceased by a brother William Zoufaly. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ Our Savior Parish (Saint Pauls) in Manchester on Saturday January 11 at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Mattison officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at the family lot in Factory Point Cemetery in Manchester in the spring. If friends desire contributions in memory of Louis A.
