Luanne Stevens

1934 - 2013 PETERSBURGH, N.Y. Luanne James Stevens of the Taconic Trail died peacefully at her home on Friday, June 28, under the care of Community Hospice of Rensselaer County.

Born in Bennington, Vt., on Jan. 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Layton D. and Clara Wood James.

She was predeceased by her former husband of 50 years, Earl A. Stevens; children, Judy Crandall and Gregory E. Stevens; grandchildren, John and Jolene Bedford, and siblings, Betsy Kimball and Layton R. James.

Raised in the Southwest Hoosick area, Luanne was a 1952 graduate of Hoosick Falls High School, After raising her children, she attended EOC in Troy to become an office worker.

She worked many years for Seagroatt's Florist in Berlin before starting to raise her grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, reading and loved to work on puzzles. She was a lifelong member of the Petersburgh United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her three children, Joan M. (Mike) Hill and Laurie (Ray) Broadwell, all of Petersburgh, and Jodi Hubbard of Grafton; her best friend of 70 years, Eleanor Herrington; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Stevens of Stephentown; nine grandchildren, Jason (of the second litter), Jeremy, Clara, Shandra, Natasha, Ryan, Christopher, Sara and Curtis, and 15 great-grandchildren. Also a special thanks to Pat Mace and Cindy Scrandas for all of their help through the years.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be Sunday, July 7, at 3 p.m. in the Petersburgh United Methodist Church, Head of Lane, Petersburgh, where the Rev. Gaylord "Jake" Campbell will officiate. A time of fellowship will follow in the church hall.

Relatives and friends are invited to visitation at the church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the start of the service.
