LUCILLE BOSTWICK COOK

1931-2015 BENNINGTON Lucille B. Cook, 84, of 11 West Street Bennington, VT passed peacefully on September 23, 2015 _ at the Vermont Veteran's Home where she had been residing since February, 2015. Lucille, daughter of Royal and Marion Bostwick of North Bennington, VT, was born on February 2, 1931. She graduated from North Bennington High School in 1949 and received an Associate's Degree in secretarial studies from St. Joseph's College in Bennington, VT in 1951. Lucille later returned to St. Joseph's college earning a second Associate's Degree in science in 1972. Lucille married John H. Cook on September 20, 1952 at the North Bennington Baptist Church where she remained an active and valued member her entire life. Lucille is survived by her husband John of 63 years of marriage, beloved daughter Cashelle Cook Lukas, and son-in-law Mark E. Lukas. Lucille's passion and purpose was her family and community. She was a devoted and faithful supporter of the North Bennington Baptist Church where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. After her retirement from Bennington College, where she worked for 42 years, she enjoyed church gatherings of the Kindred Spirits group. Lucille was an active board member of the North Bennington High school alumni and the St. Joseph's (now Southern Vermont) College Alumni. Lucille will be remembered as "everyone's mom," especially to Joseph and Lori Vadakin's children Autumn, Samantha, Rudy and Benjamin. Lucille could be counted on to attend every birthday party, school event, and holiday celebration. She enjoyed the annual Living Cr?che at the church where Phillip and Marcy Sprague's children, Nathan, Isaac, Hannah and Aaron Sprague would be shepherd, wiseman, angel, Mary and Joseph. Lucille enjoyed trips with friends to the ocean, camping, card games, bingo and attending an annual Elvis Presley rendezvous. Lucille leaves behind many friends and family who have known and loved her for a lifetime, including her dearest and best lifelong friend Virginia Couch, sister-in-law Margaret Brace, niece Bonnie Sauer, a cousin Virginia Baldwin, and recently deceased Marjorie Stevens. Lucille is predeceased by her brother Edward Bostwick, her parents, and sister-in-law Nellie Yager. She is also survived by a great niece Holly Hastings, cousins' Tim and Joyce Bruso of Ontario, NY, Barbara Turner of Sun City West, AZ and numerous cousins & friends. The daily love and care she received since July, 2013 from her beloved husband and friend Jenny Clayborn will not be forgotten. Lucille left a legacy of love, laughter, and unconditional acceptance. Her eternal optimism, humor, and loving kindness to all will be missed. The funeral will be held from the North Bennington Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 noon when the family will be in attendance. Burial will take place in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Lucille B. Cook's memory may be made to the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.
