Lucille P. Spencer

1925 - 2013 BENINGTON Lucille P. Spencer, 88, a longtime resident of Crossover Road, died Monday Aug. 12, 2013, at the Vermont Veterans Home.

She was born in Bennington on June 22, 1925, the daughter of John M. and Katherine (Dwyer) Pilling. Lucille received her education in Bennington and attended Bennington High School.

Her husband, Herman S. Spencer, whom she married Nov. 20, 1948, at the First Baptist Church of Bennington Rectory, died Sept. 17, 1997.

In earlier years, Lucille was employed at the Cooper Needle Shop and the EZ Mill. She also worked as a nurse's aid at the Crescent Manor Nursing Home and, for over 20 years, was employed in the laundry dept. at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington from which she retired.

Lucille enjoyed gardening and canning.

Survivors include a son, John Spencer and his wife, Judy, of Soap Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Norma Spencer and Mary J. Spencer, both of Bennington, nine grandchildren including her granddaughter and caregiver with whom she resided, 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Harold and Edwin Pilling and by two sisters, Florence Green and Mae Jeskie.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A graveside service will be private and held at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
