Obituary Condolences

BENNINGTON -- Lucy Betit Longtin, 100, widow of Roland O. Longtin and a resident of Benmont Avenue in Bennington, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, at her residence.

Born in Bennington Aug. 28, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Onesphore and Clara (Roy) Betit. She received her education in the Whitinghman schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Longtin were married at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington on Aug. 11, 1930. Mr. Longtin died Aug. 1, 1961. Mrs. Longtin’s home and family were her main interests. Mrs. Longtin was a member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and the St. Anne Society, where she was the oldest member.

Survivors include three daughters, Adrienne Janny of Schneksville, Pa., Suzanne Higgins of Chelmsford, Mass. and Christine Daigneault of Bennington; and three sons, Edward Longtin of Allentown, Pa., John P. Longtin of Ashland, N.H. and Dennis J. Longtin of Nashua, N.H. She leaves 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins. Mrs. Longtin was predeceased by five sisters, Delphine Forrest, Julianne Sinclair, Beatrice Cardinal, Irene LaRoche and Gertrude Betit.

The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Friday morning, Jan. 14, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer, and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 11 a.m., where the liturgy of Christian death and burial will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. and from 9:30 until 10:15 on Friday. The vigil service will be offered on Thursday.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington.

Should friends desire, memorials to Lucy Longtin may be made to either the Vermont Association for the Blind or the Vermont Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, through the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
