Lucy Pello LeRay 1920 - 2008 BENNINGTON Lucy Pello LeRay, 88, widow of Byron LeRay, a longtime resident of East Main St., died Monday, Dec. 15, at the Vermont Veterans Home, surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. Born in Bennington on May 27, 1920, daughter of Joseph A. and Jennie A. Stoppiello Pello. Lucy received her early education at Saint Francis de Sales Academy and later graduated from Bennington High School. Following high school, Lucy graduated from Saint Joseph's Business College. Lucy was employed as a supervisor at the New England Telephone Company from which she retired. For over 20 years, she was a member of the Board of Civil Authority and had served as a Justice of Peace. She was a member of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Saint Francis de Sales Church. For 30 years Lucy enjoyed hosting a family reunion each year on August 16. SHer husband, Byron LeRay , whom she married June 19, 1993, died Sept. 20, 2007. She leaves two brothers, Anthony Pello, of Bennington and Michael A. Pello of Silver Springs, Md.; a special nephew, John LeRay of Bennington; two nieces, Cynthia Burrington and Mary Gras, both of Bennington; a great-nephew, Matthew, and three great-nieces, Shannon, Meghan and Courtney. Lucy also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by four brothers, William Pello, Joseph E. Pello II, Raymond Pello, Albert C. Pello, and by four sisters, Anna Pello, Marion Pello, Kathryn West and Carmel Babcock. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME on Saturday Dec. 20, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and then from the All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 11 a.m with Kenneth Coonradt, Chaplain of the Vermont Veterans Home, officiating. Burial will take place in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. If friends desire, contributions in memory of Lucy Pello LeRay may be made to either the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home or the MS Society through the office of the MAHAR AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT. All members of the American Legion Post 13 Auxiliary are requested to meet at the funeral home on Friday at 6 p.m. to conduct their services.
