HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Luther E. “Randy” Rasch, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2005, at the Crescent Manor Nursing home in Bennington, Vt. He resided on Center Street in Hoosick Falls with his wife Patricia (Rowe) Rasch.

He was born on June 7, 1922, in Germany, son of Wilheim and Rosa (Kessling) Rasch. Randy moved to the Hoosick Falls area at the age of six and attended schools until he entered the United States Army. He served during World War II in Normandy, Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland. While serving he received the Bronze Star Medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the National Guard Company C, in Hoosick Falls for 20 years.

Randy worked at Oak Industries in Hoosick Falls as a machine operator until retiring in 1984. In his early years, he enjoyed playing softball and football. He was also very active in the Little League, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Randy also enjoyed playing golf at the Hoosick Falls Country Club where he was a member for many years. Randy was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia of Hoosick Falls and a son, William Rasch of Burlington. He is predeceased by a sister, Freida Carpenter.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:15 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main St. in Hoosick Falls. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street. Burial will follow the Mass at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
