NORTH POWNAL -- Lyman S. Pratt, 80, a lifelong resident of North Pownal, died Tuesday morning Dec. 19, 2006, at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation with his family by his side.

He was born in Pownal on Oct. 11, 1926 the son of Lyman W. and Mary (Myers) Pratt and received his education in Pownal schools.

Lyman was a leather worker for the tannery in North Pownal for several years. He served in the United State Marine Corps during WWII and received the purple heart for injuries and wounds he sustained while serving in Iwo Jima.

Lyman was a life member of the VFW Post 1332, Bennington, loved hunting and fishing, especially at his camp in Pownal, was an avid Red Sox fan and cherished times spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, the former Arlene Harris, to whom he married in Bennington on Sept. 25, 1946, at the St. Francis de Sales Rectory; his son, Roger Pratt of North Pownal; his daughte, Beverley Haley and her husband, Skip, of Pownal; his sister, Laura Larwood of Hoosick Falls, N.Y., a granddaughter, Melissa Haley; five step grandchildren, seven step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Bushner from Pittstown, N.Y. and Mabel LaBonte of North Adams, Mass.; and a brother, Earl Pratt, of Bath, N.Y.

Funeral services for Lyman with military honors will be held Friday morning Dec. 22, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home 213 West Main St., Bennington. Internment will be in the family lot in Oak Hill Cemetery in Pownal. The family will receive friends Friday morning Dec. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.
