Obituary Condolences

ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Mabel Crawford Belville, 97, of Pine Ridge Road, Asheboro, and formerly of Pownal, Vt., died Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Randolph Hospital in North Carolina.

She was born on Jan. 29, 1907 in Catskill, N.Y., the daughter of Simeon and Nellie (Parkhurst) Crawford, and attended schools in Oak Hill and Pownal, Vt.

Mrs. Belville was employed by the Pownal Tanning Company, retiring in 1968. She also worked on the campus of Williams College and at Sprague Electric in North Adams, Mass.

She married George T. (Shorty) Belville on Feb. 13, 1928. Mr. Belville died Feb. 19, 1986.

Mrs. Belville liked to crochet and loved flower gardening. She enjoyed company immensely, especially times spent with her family and friends. She loved to walk, often walking from Pownal to Bennington or Pownal to North Adams. She was greatly loved by all her family.

She is survived by a son, Jerry Belville of Asheboro, with whom she made her home for the last 10 years; a daughter, Sharon Sweet, and her husband Clifford of Pownal; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; four nieces; one nephew; and very dear friends Glenn, Ruth and Jodi Cox in Asheboro. She was predeceased by three sons, Lawrence Belville, George Belville and Edward Belville; one brother, James Crawford; three sisters, Florence Maxon, Emily MacDonald and Hazel Bass; a grandson, Lee T. Belville; a granddaughter, Sharon Yvonne Wells; a great-grandson, Harold Burdick; and nephew Ellis Maxon.

Funeral services for Mrs. Belville will be held Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at 11 a.m. at Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home in Bennington. The Rev. Gary Rogers of the North Pownal Congregational Church will officiate. Visitation at the funeral home will be Monday evening, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hanson-Walbridge Funeral Home, 213 West Main St., Bennington.
