HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. -- Madeline Dorothy (Akins) Grogan, 73, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007, at her residence on St. Croix Drive. She was the wife of the late Alonzo Grogan.

Madeline was born on Nov. 17, 1933, in Troy, daughter of the late Joseph and Madeline (Harrington) Akins. She was educated at schools in North Bennington, Vt., and Cambridge. Madeline worked at the Watervliet Arsenal as a machinist for 12 years. She later owned a Motel in New Mexico, a furniture store in North Hoosick, a home manufacturing dealership also in North Hoosick, and operated the Wayside Motel. Madeline most recently worked as a Realtor at the At Home Reality in Hoosick Falls.

Survivors include her son Alonzo Grogan III of Hoosick Falls; two daughters Cindy Linden of Austin, Texas and Susan Grogan of Albanyk; two sisters Charlotte Forrest of Hoosick Falls and Mary Carraher of Florida. Madeline is also survived by five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, sons Clifford and Gurney Grogan and a sister Sarah Akins.

Funeral services will be Friday at 10 a.m. from the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main street in Hoosick Falls. Burial will follow the service at the Meadowlawn Cemetery in North Petersburgh.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
