Born on June 14, 1925 in Adams, daughter of Charles and Margaret Purcell Palmer, she was a 1943 graduate of the former Adams High School, and a 1945 graduate of former Bliss Business School in North Adams. Immediately following her graduation from college, she was employed at the U.S. Naval Department in Washington, D.C. One of her thrills as a young woman was meeting former President Harry Truman. Mrs. Gentile was a volunteer camp director at Camp Muriel Flag in Williamstown, taught religious education at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, and was a member of the Adams Study Club for many years. She was also a member of the Forest Park Country Club in the 1960's. An avid reader, she enjoyed reading mysteries, and was a great fan of the television series "Seinfeld" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm." Her principal joy in life was visiting and entertaining her family, all of whom appreciated her sense of humor and the stories she could tell. She leaves five children, Derek Gentile of Great Barrington, Mary Beth Chapman of Arlington, Texas, Melanie Gelaznik of Adams, with whom she made her home, Hilary Gentile of Manchester, Conn., and Karla Ball of Bennington, Vt.; three grandchildren, Kane Gelaznik of Easthampton, Kyle Gelaznik of Adams and Nicholas Chapman of Arlington; her sons-in-law, Edward Chapman of Arlington and Douglas Ball of Bennington; and her former husband, Joseph Gentile of North Adams. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her four brothers, Kenneth, Leo Charles, Raymond and Gerald Palmer. FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be Wednesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Church. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at MCBRIDE FUNERLA HOME.
